Program Description

The Texoma National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) High School Vocal Music Fellowship provides opportunities for student singers who meet all three of these requirements:

  1. Current high school juniors who plan to study singing seriously in the future (such as majoring in vocal music in college). This may include choral, classical, contemporary, musical theater, music business, and more.
  2. Students who do not have the financial means to pursue these goals on their own.

  3. Students who live in New Mexico, Oklahoma, or Texas.

Fellowship Benefits

Students selected for the fellowship will receive:

  1. Private voice lessons with a professional teacher who is a member of NATS.  (See Program Structure, below.)
  2. Enrollment in an online weekly music theory program, with assignments designed to build music reading skills. All fees for this program are paid by Texoma NATS.

Additional Support (as funds allow, and dependent on student’s progress)

Texoma NATS may also provide:

  • Up to $100 (not paid directly to the student) to cover lesson-related materials (such as music scores or accompaniment tracks).
  • Up to $400 to help attend a summer vocal program (such as an All-State Choir Camp).

Program Structure

  • The selected student will receive up to 5 initial lessons. After these, the student’s progress and commitment will be reviewed. If satisfactory, the student will receive an additional term of 10 lessons.

  • Students may be awarded up to two additional 15-lesson terms during their senior year, based on the lesson teacher and theory coordinator’s report of satisfactory progress.  In total, students will receive a maximum of 45 lessons through the Fellowship program.

Application Instructions

The top half of the application (first 22 questions) is to be completed by the student. The bottom half is to be completed by the student’s parent/guardian.

Please review the entire application before beginning to fill it out so that you know what answers you will need in order to complete it. An incomplete application will not be considered.

In addition to this application, a recommendation by a music professional (a high school, middle school, or church choir director, for example) who knows the student singers abilities must be submitted by the deadline as well. Please confirm with the reference that they will be willing to submit a recommendation for you, before submitting their name on this application. The recommendation form can be found here.

It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that a recommendation letter has been submitted in support of their application.  An application without a corresponding recommendation letter will be considered incomplete and will not be considered. Late applications will not be considered.

The deadline for applications to be submitted is Monday, November 3, 2025 at 11:59 pm Central Time. Notifications are expected to go out in early January. Recommendation letters are due Thursday, November 6, 2025 at 11:59 pm Central Time.
